Money, Instagram and Snapchat Vs. Self-Control

Alexander tuso 2017

It's okay to take pride in what you have, but fighting over who has more money is on another level.

Davido and Hush Puppi  (9ja Flaver )
Hush Puppi is a strange name, whichever way you choose to look at it.  There's no reason why a grown bearded man should go by a moniker that suggests he is a large pink teddy bear, but from all appearances, the guy has money.
On his Instagram @hushpuppi, in over 300 pictures, Hush flosses in different poses with various expensive gear comfortably placed with the idea of sending one message: wealth.

You will hardly find a picture that misses the point. Man's not trying to be woke; in fact the only thing that differentiates his pictures from stock photos are the poetic captions beneath them. It's almost childish.
Davido, on the other hand, really is omo baba olowo but he's not a child by any means, at least as far as the subject of discussion is age. He's built a name for himself outside of his father's wealth and that's commendable in itself.
Nowadays, he's riding a wave that started in 2015 and has become a father to his second child. Still, despite all this success, this man insists on giving us regular updates about the state of his father's business on social media.
Davido is evidently proud of his dad, the billionaire, Adedeji Adeleke.  (Instagram)
Before Sunday, March 12, 2017, Hush Puppi did not matter much to Davido (as far as we know). Except you're one of his 170k followers on the Gram, nobody knew who he was. That is, until the two allegedly had a war of bank accounts and gold bottles at Quilox that they have since settled.
From all indications, the two have enough money to create a scene at Quilox which is why, except someone was hoping to get famous off it, this fight was pointless from the get-go.
What irks me, though, is the social media mess that followed, from Davido sharing bank statements to the other guy telling us on Snapchat that he didn't go to the most suspicious country in South-East Asia to count bridges.

All this could have been avoided, if two grown men had shown just some self-control. Not much. Just a little.
I'll admit that for people like Davido, the glamour and allure of the spotlight can demand a certain level of flamboyance. Our ideal celebrity is a peacock; the guy with the flash that we aspire to be, even when we know he is the exception, a once-in-a-blue-moon type of thing.
Hush Puppi might be the type of guy that sees every new shirt as an opportunity to update his fans on the Snap with another motivational message.
It happens, stuff like this is normal but let's not act like there's nothing wrong with it. Acting a fool and being willfully ignorant is never okay; money does not and cannot change this.
There's stuff like a Bizzle Osikoya tweet from yesterday that suggests that while the rest of us do not need to do it, entertainers like Wizkidand Davido can flaunt their wealth because they've earned it.
The thing is these guys have earned more than wealth, but instead of drawing attention to their work, what they create, what they have the potential to achieve, the focus is on their lifestyle.
We hide behind self-love and encourage pointless extravagance. Which is why an upcoming artiste will dedicate his time to building his Instagram numbers and creating a peng social feed before he bothers to find out what the inside of a recording studio looks like.
It's why a sketchy man with no certain source of income will beg his section of Nigerian Twitter to drop their pride and beg him for money in an attempt to milk this short, brief time in the spotlight.
It's always okay to be confident in what you have earned, but nobody ever died of self-control
Somehow, it feels like I'm preaching to the gallery. It's only a matter of time before someone decides to insult someone's uncle on Instagram over who has more Gucci sandals

The unidentified woman, had reportedly gone to the market at the Bulawayo’s Lobengula Street area in Zimbabwe, dressed in a very short dress. Someone who didn't like her appearance then poured water on her, while the others jeered at her for her appearance. The woman became very angry and proceeded to take off her clothes (underwears inclusive), all the while shouting back at her oppressors.
