England’s performance against the Netherlands has Ray Wilkins excited for the World Cup, but the former Chelsea and Manchester United star says there is still room for improvement.
Gareth Southgate’s side impressed in their 1-0 victory in Amsterdam on Friday night, with United starlet Jesse Lingard firing the Three Lions to victory.

It was the first taste fans got of the possible formation and style of play they can expect from England when they travel to Russia in the summer, and many were impressed by their composed display.
And Wilkins was excited by the ‘swagger’ the players showed against the Dutch.
“It was one of the best performances I’ve seen from an England team in a long, long while,” the ex-England international told the Weekend Sports Breakfast .
“England controlled the game.
“There was so much pace and energy, we moved the ball quickly and we swaggered at times, which I love.
“It wasn’t arrogance, we swaggered and I just thought it was terrific, I loved the performance.”
But Wilkins says there is still improvement to be made in attack.
England had 11 shots on goal against the Dutch but landed only three on target.
They were without first choice striker Harry Kane, instead starting with Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling in the front-three.
And Wilkins hopes, once Kane returns from injury, Southgate will revert to two strikers to give them more potency upfront.
“It can still improve in the final third – how many goal threats did we actually have?
“We didn’t create a lot of opportunities to scores goals, but you only need one in international football ans if it’s in the back of the net and you can keep a clean sheet, and we looked very, very solid defensively, then you’re laughing.
“They will get better. In Sterling and Rashford you’ve just got pace to burn up front, but I love playing with two up front and I think we must go with two up front at the World Cup”
